Escaping to Nature in Sakarya – Urban Park

Project site of Urban Park has approximately 72.000 m² area that is at the city center of Sakarya. Existing flora has been preserved as much as possible while various activities, recreation and leisure spaces are designed and proposed. An integration landscape restoration approach has been accepted and sustaining existing texture has been aimed via necessary additions.

The pedestrian promenade, that is designed on the North-south axis, provides circulation through the whole Project area.  ‘Has Bahçe’ has been designed by restoring existing pond and by including new public coffee house. Atatürk Stadium that is located at the very center of the project site has been functionally removed but its linear form has been protected to symbolize traces of the past, and new multi-purpose activity spaces are suggested. An artificial lake is proposed as well in order to create even a more active area.  Color and scent gardens, a watch tower for panoramic urban view, and fruit and vegetable gardens have been designed.

Generally speaking, a tranquil, relaxing recreational area is established far from city’s density and crowd. Besides, scale, project settlement, spatial requirements and quality are aimed to achieve, and natural materials are selected for structural and planting design. Sakarya Public Garden is surrounded by light fences in order to obtain visual continuity and to retract interest of visitors. Entrance gateways are designed in the way of being shut down except definite visiting hours.
